Togo is one of the most beautiful shipwrecks in the Mediterranean. Togo was a 76 m long sailing and steam freighter (3 masts and an engine) built in 1882 in Newcastle, England for the Compagnie Havraise Péninsulaire which named it "City of Valencia". In 1912, it was bought by the company Ilva which renamed it Togo to transport coal in the Mediterranean. On May 12, 1918, it struck a floating mine in Cavalaire Bay, and sank rapidly. Cut in half, the main part rests in a straight position on the sand by 60 m of sandy bottom, the rear part being 300 m further by 68m of bottom. You can visit the interior of the wreckage and see the imposing engine room or enter through the huge hole left by the chimney of the boat that disappeared. Beautiful anchors and a cast iron stove are still visible. The whole boat was colonized by red, orange, garnet or black gorgonians. It is not uncommon to cross schools of anthias or castagnolles. Congres and groupers also hide in the cavities of the boat.
