Tens of thousands stage pro-Palestine protest in Yemen

YEMEN, SANAA - APRIL 19, 2024: Tens of thousands of people in Yemen on Friday staged solidarity demonstrations with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip who have been subjected to Israeli occupation and attacks. In the capital Sanaa, a demonstration was held at the call of the Houthis with the slogan "Our struggle will continue until Gaza wins.. We are with Gaza." Yemenis gathered on Sebin Street in the capital after Friday prayers to express support for Palestine. The demonstration featured banners and posters condemning Israel's attacks on Gaza and calling for a boycott of American and Israeli products. The Al-Masirah channel, affiliated with the Houthis, broadcasts live the demonstrations held in different cities of Yemen, not just the capital Sanaa. Israel has waged a deadly offensive on the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 cross-border attack by Hamas, which killed nearly 1,200 people. Israel has also imposed a crippling blockade on the Palestinian enclave, leaving its population, particularly residents of northern Gaza, on the verge of starvation. The Israeli war has pushed 85% of Gaza's population into internal displacement amid acute shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, while over 60% of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, according to the UN. Israel stands accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
