The warm light of the sunset illuminates the Trajan's Forum in Rome with the Altare della Patria in the background - stock photo

A suggestive sunset view of the Trajan's Forum (below) the Campidoglio or Capitoline Hill (up at center) and the National Monument of the Altare della Patria (right), in the historic heart of Rome. In the middle, surrounded by the pine trees, the Imperial Forums Boulevard. The area of the Roman Imperial Forums is one of the most iconic in Rome, visited by thousands of tourists every year, with the largest area of archaeological excavations in the world. The national monument of the Altare della Patria, or Vittoriano, was built in 1885 in neoclassical style in honor of the first King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II, between the north side of the Capitoline Hill and the central Piazza Venezia. Inside is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a War Memorial dedicated to all the Italian soldiers who died in the war. The Altare della Patria is the scene of all the official Italian civic celebrations, in particular the Republic Day on June 2 and the Liberation Day on April 25. In 1980 the historic center of Rome was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Image in high definition format.
