WW2 Poster USA
World War II, American propaganda poster showing caricature of a Japanese man, with bloody dagger behind his back, looking at his reflection in a piece of scrap metal. Racist image intended for domestic consumption to raise morale. The gargoyle-like character is probably based on Emperor Hideki Tojo. The poster was used in the Douglas Aircraft Company factories after Pearl Harbor to help reduce waste. It was later distributed to 7,000 suppliers and other industries. Original title: Tokio kid say - Much waste of material make so-o-o-o happy! Thank you! Color poster; 17" x 22". Office for Emergency Management, OWI, Domestic Operations Branch. Commissioned by Douglas Aircraft Company and subsidized by the War Production Board.Artist: Jack Campbell. Washington, D.C., USA, ca. 1943 (Photo by Galerie Bilderwelt/Getty Images)
