EL SALVADOR-GUERRILLA-TOURISM
Tobias Orellana, a survivor of the May 14, 1980 Sumpul River massacre where more than 300 people were killed by the armed forces of El Salvador and Honduras, sits in a small museum of arms in San Jose Las Flores, 100 km north of San Salvador, on January 7, 2017.
A majority of the residents of San Jose Las Flores are former Salvadoran guerrilla fighters and survivors of massacres during the 1980-1992 civil war in El Salvador. Through a cooperative, they have set up a number of projects of social and economic interest, such as a community bakery, a communal cafeteria, a health clinic, crafts workshops, and a tourist center on the Sumpul River, where hundreds of people were killed in a massacre by the armed forces. / AFP / Marvin RECINOS / TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY Carlos Mario MARQUEZ (Photo credit should read MARVIN RECINOS/AFP via Getty Images)
