Malariae schizont
This Giemsa stained thick film micrograph depicts an immature P. malariae schizont containing four chromatin masses. There are approximately 156 named species of Plasmodium which infect various species of vertebrates. Four species, P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae are known to infect humans.
