The dwarf trout lily, one of only four Minnesota plants on the federal endangered list, is in bloom. The tiny flower grows in only three counties in the United States. Theyíre in the Big Woods area of Minnesota. Volunteer workers help botanist ecologist Nancy Sather of the DNR look for and count the little guys. They worked this week on a plot in Nerstrand Big Woods State Park. -- While white trout lilies (Erythronium albidum) are common and grow in the same habitat as the rare Minnesota dwarf troutlily (Erythronium propullans), their foliage is undistinguishable from one another until they are in bloom. The bloom of the dwarf variety, shown here, is smaller than a dime while the flower of the much larger white trout lily is about the size of a quarter.(Photo By DARLENE PFISTER/Star Tribune via Getty Images)
