Northwest's Power Supply Dries Up as California's Energy Crisis Spreads
388423 05: The boat ramp at the Seven Bays Marina is closed because of low water at the Franklin D. Roosevelt Lake, April 16, 2001, in the Coulee Dam National Recreation Area, WA. The Lake formed by the Grand Coulee Dam, one of the world's largest concrete structures, is the main source of water utilization on one of the nation's biggest producers of electricity, the Columbia River. But scant rain and snow are keeping the region's hydroelectric plants scrambling to produce enough energy for their own state's needs, leaving no extra electricity to bail California out of its energy crisis this summer.
