(Original Caption) The 1935 baseball season opened in New York today at the Yankee Stadium with the Yankees playing the Boston Red Sox, to the accompaniment of chill, wintry breezes. Wesley Check Ferrel, Red Sox pitcher proved too much for the home boys and the final score was 1-0, with only Gehrig and Selkirk getting as far as first base. Gomez also pitched good ball and held the Red Sox to six hits, the Red Sox run being a result of two Yankee errors, one by Gomez himself. photo shows; Manager Joe Cronin (center) with two of his rookies who helped add to the downfall of the Yanks; Ellsworth Dahlgren, first baseman (left) and Mel Almada, center fielder for the Red Sox.
