World War Two: No.312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron RAF
L - R, Sergeant Bohumil Votruba (1914 - 1941), Flight Lieutenant Ladislav Svetlík ( 1917-2008), Flight Lieutenant Alois Vasatko (1908 - 1942) and Flight Lieutenant Jan Klan (1922 - 1989) pilots of No 312 (Czechoslovak) Squadron Royal Air Force Fighter Command debrief with their squadron Intelligence Officer on the tailplane of a Hawker Hurricane MkI fighter on 10th December 1940 at RAF Speke in Liverpool, Merseyside, England. Sergeant Pilot Bohumil Votruba was killed on 6th May 1941 in a flying accident whilst on operational patrol. On 23rd June 1942 Flight Lieutenant Alois Vasatko collided in mid-air with a Luftwaffe Fw 190 flown by Unteroffizier Wilhelm Reuschling of 7./JG 2 whilst providing fighter escort to a bombing mission over Brittany in France destroying both aircraft (Photo by William Vanderson/Fox Photos/Hulton Archive/Getty Images).
