(Original Caption) 7/4/1954-San Salvador, El Salvador- The scene in the ceremonial hall of El Salvador's Presidential House as the peace treaty was signed ending the two-week-old Guatemalan civil war. It provides for a 5-man military junta. All signers pledged a continuing fight to eliminate Communism from the Central American nation. Seated (L-R): Colonel Elfego H. Monzon, top man in the new Guatemalan government; Dr. Carlos Azucar Chavez, foreign undersecretary of El Salvador; and Colonel Carlos Castillo Armas, leader of Guatemala's anti-Communist rebels.
