circa 1870: Robert Brown Potter (1829-1887). American lawyer and soldier. In the Civil War became a Union major of 51st New York Regiment, with Burnside's expedition to North Carolina 1862, served at Roanoke Island, New Berne and Cedar Mountain. Later at Antietam, MD, Fredericksburg, promoted to brigadier general 1863, at Vicksburg and Jackson, Mississippi, Battle of The Wilderness. Wounded at Petersburg 1865, made major general.
