REUNION-FLOODS-CYCLONE

A person stands in front of a bridge which collapsed as a result of the St Etienne River's flood, after the tropical cyclone Gamede approached the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, 25 February 2007 in Saint-Louis of Reunion. Gamede was situated at 245 kilometres (152 miles) to the north east of the French overseas department and was continuing westwards at a speed of 14 kilometres (eight miles) an hour, said local authorities. Nine people were injured, including one seriously, early on Sunday, numerous roads had been flooded and some landslides had been noted. Overnight 140 people had been put up in emergency centres as a precaution. The island had been placed on red alert for the cyclone on Saturday evening.
