Daily India Coverage 2020

GHAZIABAD, INDIA - MARCH 29, 2020: Migrant workers escaping the mega city on foot and then boarding some buses in droves on March 29, 2020 in Ghazibad, India. The local governments decided to provide buses to transport them to their villages. The government says all these migrant workers will now be quarantined for 14 days. These buses are over-crowded and packed like sardines. This dense congregation defeats the very purpose of maintaining a social distance of one meter. This exodus is being witnessed even as India battles the Corona Virus or Covid 19 pandemic at war footing. On March 29, 2020 thousands of daily wage earning workers were walking to their villages. The migrant labour have no money, almost no food, no jobs and cannot pay rents and hence whole families had been walking for hundreds of kilometres to go back to their native places or villages. Most of India went into a complete lock down for 21 days. On March 24, 2020 Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the dramatic announcement that 1.3 billion Indians will now have to stay indoors to try and contain the Covid 19 pandemic.
