PARIS, FRANCE: (From L) Martin Pickford, member of the College de France and of the Kenya Palaeontolgy Expedition, Professor Y. Coppens, from the College de France, and Brigitte Senut, from the French National Natural History Museum, compare femur bones from a recent man (L) and from the Millenium Ancestor 06 February 2001 in Paris. French scientists and the Community Museums of Kenya presented here the remains of the oldest fossilized hominid ever found. Thirteen pieces of the "Millenium Ancestor," who lived six million years ago, were unearthed in northwestern Kenya at the end of 2000 by a Franco-Kenyan team. They were brought to France for analysis. "Millenium Ancestor" is older than "Lucy" (3,2 millions years), who was found in 1974 in northeastern Ethiopia.
