(Original Caption) 5/22/58-Lincoln, Nebraska: The Charles Starkweather jury was asked May 22nd to send the 19-year-old admitted mass-killer to the electric chair. The defense, asking for mercy, said, "Let's not kill the boy, just the devil in him." Shown is the jury of eight women, four men--plus two alternates and the matron. The jury recessed after 2 3/4 hours deliberation without coming to a decision. They will resume discussion of the case May 23rd.
