Hundreds of people of all races and creeds participate in the annual Mahatma Gandhi Salt March beginning at the Phoenix - Gandhi Settlement in Bhambayi north of Durban on April 20, 2008.The Salt March symbolised Gandhi's defiance of the Salt Tax imposed by the British colonialists and Gandhi led a march against the laws signifying the launch of the greatest non violent struggle against colonialism. A few hundred protestors from the Tibet Society of South Africa marched in support of Gandhi's peaceful ideology and to appeal to the Chinese government to engage in diaologue with the Dalai Lama.
