One Small Step - The Australian Story

CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA - JUNE 02: (AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND MAGAZINES OUT UNTIL OCT 1, 2009) A general view of the DSS-46 antenna which was originally constructed in 1965 at the Honeysuckle Creek Tracking Station for the Apollo missions, on June 2, 2009 in Tidbinbilla, near Canberra, Australia. The antenna received the first images of Neil Armstrong walking on the Moon before it was relocated to Tidbinbilla in 1983 and modified. The X-Y configuration and small dish size allow it to move rapidly, making it ideal for tracking near-Earth spacecraft and is soon to be decommissioned. These photographs were taken during filming for the BBC Knowledge production 'One Small Step: The Australian Story', which chronicles the 24hours surrounding man walking on the moon. Hosted by Peter FitzSimons, the programme counts down to the landing on the moon and the most famous human footsteps to celebrate the mission's 40th anniversary this year.
