Gauteng premier on service delivery protests
PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA - MARCH 11: (SOUTH AFRICA, UAE, BRAZIL OUT) Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane attends a press conference regarding the service delivery protests that have swept the nation, March 11, 2010 in Pretoria, South Africa. With only 93 days to go before the start of the 2010 World Cup, residents threatened to disrupt the tournament. They are demanding that the government immediately supply them with houses, electricity, running water and flushing toilets. They told reporters that if the government could spend millions of rands and prepare for the World Cup so quickly, it's a disgrace that people are still living in squalor in squatter camps. Mokonyane said the protesters "Have no respect" and that she would be surprised if they didn't attempt to disrupt the 2010 World Cup, as it would be the focus of the international media.
