First European Liver Transplantation
French Hepatobiliary specialist Henri Bismuth with his team of 14 International surgeons who participated in the first European liver transplant at the Paul Brousse hospital in the suburbs of Paris. The team consisted of René Adam (Greece), Bao Lethai (Vietnam), Denis Castaing, Henri Bismuth, Benoit Navez (Belgium), Francesco Merrigi (Italy), Ibrahim Astarcioglu (Romania), Mohamed Kafhi (Morocco), Malcolm Aldritge (Great Britain), Bao Yan Ming (China), Johan (Yugoslavia), Mario Morino (Turin ,Italy), Daniel Azoulay (France), Zerhont (Algeria). The patient, a 25 year old Italian man, was suffering from Fulminant Hepatitis, a rare and fatal form of the disease. The liver was donated from a young German man.
