Kings Cross Underground Fire

Fireman Colin Townsley is brought out of Kings Cross underground station after being overcome by the smoke and the heat. Colin was one of 150 firefighters brought in to tackle the blaze which broke out in a machine room under a wooden escalator. The escalator connected the Piccadilly line one of five underground train routes which run through King's Cross with the mainline station. 31 people died in the blaze .
