Reims, FRANCE: Eric Pieczac, France's V150 TGV fast train's driver poses, 03 April 2007 on the plateform at the "Reims Bezannes" after the TGV set a new world speed record for a train on rails, hitting 574.8 kilometres per hour (357 miles per hour) on a 73-kilometre (45.3 mile) stretch of track between Paris and the eastern city of Strasbourg, The record -- easily beating the 515.3 kph set by a TGV (Traine a Grande Vitesse) in 1990 -- was made by an experimental version equipped with two supercharged locomotives and extra-large wheels.
