Cleopatras Needle, an ancient Egyptian monumentthe obelisk of Pharaoh Thutmose III, stands in New York's Central Park December 2, 2013, the only monumental obelisk from ancient Egypt in the US. It has stood in Central Park since 1881, a gift to the City of New York from the khedives of Egypt. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, which is located nearby, will present an exhibition titled Cleopatras Needle about the construction and evolving symbolism of obelisks from antiquity to the present day.
