New York, New York: Movie comedian Charles Chaplin and his wife, the former Oona O'Neill, are shown on their arrival in New York from the west coast ten days ago. The Chaplins and their four children sailed for Europe aboard the liner Queen Elizabeth two days ago. Today, in Washington, Attorney General McGranery ordered Chaplin barred from the United States until an immigration hearing determines whether "he is admissible under the laws of the United States." The comedian has never become an American citizen although he lived in the United States for almost 40 years. The Justice Department would not comment on the case.
