A cat looks on at the newly-restored 19th century Jewish synagogue of Ben Ezra in Coptic Cairo on December 2, 2023. The synagogue is believed to date back to the 9th century, named after prominent Jewish scholar Abraham Ibn Ezra, and was rebuilt several times over the past millennium after a series of fires and restorations. The current structure was built in the 1890s after the discovery of the nearby famed Cairo Geniza, which became an invaluable resource for many Jewish scholars.
