British writer Cecil Scott Forester (1899 - 1966) best known as the creator of the fictional British naval officer, Horatio Hornblower, whose story is told in 12 novels, including Captain Horatio Hornblower, R.N. (1939), Mr. Midshipman Hornblower (1950), Lieutenant Hornblower (1952), Hornblower in the West Indies (1958), and The Indomitable Hornblower (1963).
