Bill Chapman's Empire Clock sits atop a shelf in his living room deside his many trophies for pigeon racing at his home in Reading, Berkshire, in southern England, 27 November 2007. Ninety-three year-old Chapman has dedicated most of his life to the sport of pigeon racing after he acquired two stray birds when he was 9-years-old. Although his passion for pigeons was briefly interrupted by getting married and fighting in World War II. Chapman won his first race in 1936, winning an Empire clock which still strikes the hour from his mantelpiece at home. Since, Chapman has won more than 60 races with his birds. Chapman was a founder member of The Royal Pigeon Racing Association southern region and held the role of Treasurer over the years.
